Ingredients for Keema Matar (Beef with Peas) Recipe
1 lg Onion finely chopped
3 tb Peanut oil
2 Cloves crushed garlic
1/2 ts Garam masala
1/2 ts Ground ginger
1/2 ts Ground turmeric
1/2 ts Chili powder
1 lb Ground beef
4 md Tomatoes, chopped
1/2 c Frozen peas
pn Salt to taste
1 c Water
Keema Matar (Beef with Peas) Preparation
Brown ground beef in pan, drain and set aside. In frying pan fry onion in peanut oil until it is lightly browned. Mix the garlic and the spices, add to the onion and fry gently for about one minute. Add the meat. Add tomatoes, peas, pour in the water and salt to taste. Simmer covered until meat is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed and flavours merge, about 45 minutes. use fresh spices
Forget the ground ginger and chili powder and use about 1″ of fresh root ginger(grated or finely chopped) and use fresh chopped chili(s)
And the addition of a beef stock cube,or fresh beef stock if you have it, adds some additional flavour.I also add some course ground black pepper.
I also microwave the peas and add near the end of the cooking time. Otherwise you are likely to end up with mushed peas.
