Ingredients for Tipsy Cake Recipe
1 lb Stale cake (pound, angel)
5 fl Sherry
3 tb Jam
1 pt Warm custard
Measure whisky 10
fl Whipped cream
Tipsy Cake Preparation
Break up the cake or cakes and gently mix the jam through — the mixture does not have to be completely even. Place in a glass bowl. Mix sherry and whisky and sprinkle over cake. Press down lightly. Pour custard over the cake, and chill. Then spoon whipped cream over top and serve.

pecan layer
My family recipe is much the same but uses no jam. Instead, we have a layer of pecans on top of each layer of whipped cream. So it goes: Angel food cake topped with custard topped with whipped cream topped with pecans, repeat as your bowl allows. The prepared layers (all but pecans) are mixed with one of the following liquors: sweet wine, Irish whiskey, rum, etc. as your choice.
