Ingredients for Date Cake Recipe

1-1/3 c Pitted dates (approx. 8 oz.)
1 c Boiling water
1-1/2 c Flour
1 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Shortening
1 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla extract
2 Eggs
3/4 c Chopped walnuts

From: c_walker@cc.colorado.edu Date: 25 Mar 1994 13:18:19 -0500 Grease and lightly flour 13x9x2 baking pan. Combine dates and boiling water. Let cool to room temperature. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt. In a large bowl, beat shortening about 30 seconds. Add sugar and vanilla and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating one minutes after each addition. Add flour mixture and dates (incl. water) alternately, beating after each addition. Stir in nuts.
